How I work

In short: I work in two ways:

'Free work' paintings

If I am not working on a commission, I paint, as it is called, "free work". This can be on many subjects. Often I go out with my painting stuff and find a nice spot outside to capture a beautiful view. Along the coast in the winter, in the countryside in the summer, every subject has its charm. A bridge, a canal, lakes, the colors of summer ... Painting outside, “rain - or shine” (preferably dry, cold does not really matter) is a great passion. I set off with a blank canvas and come back with a view, a beautiful place, on canvas. This gives a very deep satisfaction. This is what I love to do!

In my studio I work with great pleasure on a painting with flowers from still life, or a painting based on a photo. I regularly work on a series for an exhibition in a gallery. A series that I've worked on in the past with great satisfaction, was the 13 western style paintings of cowboys and horses. I could also do a series of snowy landscapes, which are also fine to do in my studio, even when there’s no snow outside. The space of my studio is lovely and inspiring, with a beautiful skylight.  Painting commissioned

A commission painting can be based on a picture for reference, but also on location. If the client prefers a spontaneous "fast" work, painting on location is a very good option. For a more detailed work I’d better work in the studio. In my studio I have all the supplies at hand and there are better circumstances for a larger canvas. I have experienced that clients find that I work quickly, and that the quality meets expectations, or - I mention proudly - often exceeds expectations. In the reviews . you can read comments on my work. It is my goal that the customer is completely satisfied. That's what I'll do anything for. About me

My name is Nancy van den Boom. I paint every day passionately since 2004, with oil on canvas. I discovered by accident that painting is what I love to do so very much. I am so glad I did discover this!

In my paintings, I can fully express my love for the subjects in oil paint. I choose to thereby essence, not to detail. My concern is the feeling I want to convey.

I regularly go out to paint. The inspiration around Uitgeest – Netherlands, where I live, is great. Lots of space and places to paint. Bridges, scenery, cloudy skies, meadows, trees! Sometimes I go a little further from home (other provinces or Germany) to paint outdoors. A painting made outside is kind of a snapshot.

Once home, I do not work on it anymore, to preserve the spontaneous feeling. So it is really an impression of the moment and I think this is more important than painting detailed and "finish" the painting.

I also like to paint in my studio, at home. Especially working with larger paintings about 40 x 40 inches or bigger, is wonderful. In the studio I can put more hours in a painting which is ideal for commissions. Still I think, there should always be something to discover. You can read more about me on the page: About me ›
